| So today I started offically as a full employee at Covad Communications troubleshooting, of all things, their T1/DS1 circuits. Good benefits, good wages and good people, so I think I'll stay awhile. I'm no longer a contract employee with Tek Systems, though they did assist in me getting my foot in the door, I was one of two contractors that has been converted to a full employee...must be doing something right.
So, while I pat myself on the back for that, I'd thought I'd let everyone know that I'm doing well with my wife, Pam, and nine month old baby girl, Kacey. I have finally finished my chainmail shirt, and am now working on one for Pam. Her's will be more like a tank-top, which will be more flexible than my own, though obviously less protective...but it's okay, it's for costumes (though it is combat grade material and *ahem* workmanship). Once I'm done with her shirt, I'll go back to working on a coif to match my shirt and, more than likely, purchase a spangenhelm helmet for the final touch. My father-inlaw just bought an old 1987 Mustang LX body that he's going to turn into a 10 second quarter mile Pro-Stock dragster, and I've told him I'll help him with it...gasoline in the veins and all...just to see it run if nothing else. For those of you that understand the ins-and-outs of engines, he'll be putting in a 460ci engine (~7.5 litre's) naturally asperiated with a carborated (can't do fuel injected for the race class he's in) that'll roughly put out 7-800 horses on pump gas, a phenominal amount of power on a car that, with the driver, will have _maybe_ 2300 lbs total load. Imagine being in a giant sling-shot (wiley coyote image) that'll propel you from standing still to over 150mph in 1,320 ft, the rush is unimagineable (and alot safer than the slingshot) It's starting to actually feel like fall here, around 43 degrees and overcast right now with a high of 56 for the day. About darn time, it's been 78 and cloudless for the last couple of weeks and been more like summer (*taunt*). Pam is going back to finish school and get her Veterinary Technician degree, I think she's a little ansee (ANSI?) about getting back into the workforce, though she does enjoy her time with Kacey. If nothing else, she'll have something we can fall back on if, say, the Tech Industry goes belly up (or at least is stuck like a pig) again. I'd probably have to go back to tending bar, but we'll see what becomes of it rather than speculating. On that kinda depressing note, I hope everyone of us that's scattered about the country is doing well. Take care friends. -D
10/01/2003 - Sherri: Sounds like your life, at least, is in order. I think just about everyone is doing fairly well. Some of us could be doing a hell of a lot better, but isn't that always the case? Congrats, man. 10/17/2003 - sherri: this comment has nothing what so ever to do with the above post. However, it is meant to tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! |

Started work today, in fact I'm still there, between breaks posting as I go. Already went over a general introduction to the facilities, the position relations between each other, and what our general job descriptions and duties will be. Looks like a 10 day course, and I'm currently working with the customer service side, to familiarize myself with the local protocols, hardware and software interfaces...again, general introductory stuff. We may be pulled in and out of class, due to the fact that I'm a TSR (no, not terminate and stay resident) but a technical service repairer. Back to the class for now.

![]() You're a Dragon!! Intelligent, graceful...and..rather big... But not always! You can change your form into human.. or elf.. though your hair will generally match the colour of what your scales are as a dragon... That's fun.. You're one of the oldest and wisest races alive.... | Well, I've finally gotten back out of the restaurant business and back into IT. Took me awhile, but having a few friends in the arena and getting the right head hunter to look for you helps! So, a head hunting agency Teksystems helped in finding this job with Covad doing tier two DSL help desk, something that I used to do for that...um...other nameless no-good internet company (who, by the way, seems to have their domain name expiring in a couple of months!) Anyways, I start on Wednesday, doing mostly paperwork and orientation, but I shall be prepared!
Found a neat little website Firewall.cx that has some good explanations and documentation on things concerning firewalls (IP, NAT, VPN, etc.) which I have been using to refresh my mind on some of the more useful applications I might be doing for Covad. As for Kacey I have updated her site with a few pictures we got "professionally" done for easter (though they got backlogged and didn't get them developed until recently.) We think she is starting to teethe, the incessant drooling, trouble staying asleep, and sudden fits all seem to point to this one painful change she'll be taking...at least on the bright side she won't look like some old man that lost his teeth and has to stick to gumming his food =). On a side note, I've been _trying_ to get this Beta to work for Star Wars: Galaxies, but I'm thinking that their applette (known as the LaunchPad) doesn't like Sun's virtual java machine, because it has YET to load properly, and like a good little beta tester, I've posted and reported til my head started aching, about this pathetic excuse of a game launcher. I'd so want to get into, and if any of you are testers as well, please Please PLEASE drop me a line with any advice you might have about getting it to work (*poke ego* *poke watson*). Well, happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there (especially to MY mother, or I wouldn't be here :P) I bid you a good weekend, and goodnight!

Okay, so it hasn't been THAT long since my last post, but it could almost be since so much has changed since I got married.
Sooooo...where to begin, where to begin....
Well, I guess I should start with the biggest news of my life, that of being a FATHER (that's right ladies and germs, the big D stayed in the genetic pool before that timely lifeguard removed me from it *grin*). Kacey Guenevere Boerger, born December 20, 2002 at 16:15 MST, weighed 7lbs 6.8oz and was 21 inches long. I'll soon have a page up here with pictures, and other fun stuff about the little light in my life.
04/22/2003 - Jenni: What size clothes is she wearing now? 04/22/2003 - sherri: *blink**blink**blink* Derek is a dad??? Did I miss something somewhere along the way? Other than the marriage thing? 04/24/2003 - Scratch: Whatever happened to craig? Another MStater that vanished... Glad to see you back around ya bum..now just stay here :) |

| What, do you ask, is so important about this date? Simple, I got married on that day. Since alot of you missed it (save my best man, Craig) I'll just have to post pictures of the wedding when we get them in, for the enjoyment of all the masses and stuph. Sorry that alot of you missed it, was a wonderful day, a wonderful wedding, and a wonderful honeymoon! :P Anyways, we did hold a renaissance style wedding, in a public park, with chilvary, swords, axes, armor, etc. etc. all around, which made it quite fun.
07/17/2002 - Ashe: Woo! Congrats! Welcome to the world of the l337 m4rr13d D00dz |

I proposed to Pam a few weeks ago, and she said the all powerful response 'Yes', which mad my year *grin*. She already broke the news to her parents, I just have to do so to mine. We agreed (before she leaked the news to her mother) that we'd tell both our parents together...so much for that. Oh well, it's okay anyways. We like the idea of getting married at the Colorado Renaissance Festival, even though the only dates to do it this year would be June 29 & 30. So keep your calanders open for it!
05/09/2002 - Scratch: Damn people getting married all over the place..... |

| Yes, that's right, it's that time of year again...finals *sigh* And I've got a few projects to finish as well. yee haw. That's okay, I'm enjoying my graphics course, learned alot about OpenGL, including how it works. Too bad this Mac I'm using in the school lab doesn't have a compiler loaded onto it. Oh well. Quit my job at Traildust due to a manager and I not getting along. Apparently this manager wanted to go on a powertrip and I wasn't gonna stand for it, so I let my opinion be known and left. So, I'm currently looking for another job, either bartending or network administration/help desk within the Denver, CO area...know of one, lemme know :) Oh, did hear one thing about that afore said manager, she's gotten into alittle hot water herself and just might be getting , which would make my day!
So, if it's true, I'm gonna throw a kegger and par-tay!The love of my life, Pam, and I are doing quite well (though she's been alittle sick lately). She moved into her new apartment with little going wrong (okay, so the roomies puppy likes to leave little, um, presents about, but he's learning). Other than that, little else has been happening (hence the lack of posts to the journal). -D

| I'm back to class again, seems this stuff will never end...but I can finally see the light at the end of the long and winding tunnel. Two semesters and one summer school session left (aka 1 year) and I'll have my computer science degree. Still got some heavy hitters left to take, but most of it I've either already had or I'm taking it now, yee haw. It I'm actually writing this from the campus library in between my graphics and digital devices classes, seems that since we've had the snow it has made the professors want to get out of class sooner than some of the students, including myself (after all, I paid for the damn class, I better get my money's worth!) Class is going to extend into the evening, which will make a long day for me, hope I can manage. Pam and I are quite in love with one another still, and it seems to grow more and more with each passing day...nay, with each passing second. I can't seem to get enough of her, and I think the feeling it mutual. Pam has been taking singing lessons with her sisters, both have wonderful voices, but this should refine them and teach them more control of their voices and widen their vocal range, and it seems to be working too :) Hope Everyone is doing well, and as always, my doors are open to my friends, just gimme some notice so I can tidy up a bit :P -D
01/29/2002 - Scratch: Beaing Close to gettinga degree certainly is a refreshing change. Oh and by the way, I *may* be makinga road trip to the west coast um...sometime in may...:) 02/12/2002 - Scratch: I am the only person who can make comments it seems.... Mardi Gras rocks. You are Missing it. You suck. 04/25/2002 - Journal: Write in me! |

| Many of you have probably been wondering what I've been up to. Seems there IS life outside of the MUD! I met a girl a few months ago, her name is Pam, and we have had quite a relationship. I admit I love her, and I can't seem to stay away from her. She has quite frankly become my best of friends (sorry, Craig, though no one could ever replace you!). I'm still working at the Trail Dust as a bartender, though that may change in the near future, as business and some management changes have made working there less appetizing. I'm still in school, with about 3 or so more semesters to go (God help me) and if everything works as I'd like, I may have some $1 billion plane that YOU purchased just so I can fly it! MUHAHAHAHAH! I'm currently building a new computer (Dual AMD 1800 MP on a Tyan K7 Thunderbird motherboard, 1 gig ram, IBM 18.3GB SCSI, Verto GeForce 3 64mb, Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum) which will be running both Win-doze 2000 and RedHat Linux 7.1, and will be doing mostly rendering and programming on it, with the occasional gamming as well :P Why such a HUGE system? ...because I CAN, that's WHY! :P If any friends seem to be dropping by the neighborhood and wants to do some wonderful Colorado snow skiing, I'd be more than happy to put you up and be a tour guide, as seeing old friends is always welcome! ...just gimme a buzz. Take care my friends!
01/05/2002 - Scratch: bum. 11/13/2003 - : My family and I ate at Trail Dust Steak house, and it was the worst that we've ever had, service sucked, food sucked and the managers had a who cares attitude,, oh well word of mouth. 11/13/2003 - Dracken: Too bad you had a poor experience, when I was there the food was great, the drinks were even better (but I guess I'm biased since I did make them) and the service was good. But hard to say when and which resturant you were at. The one I worked at was the bussiest and most successful of the stores, located in South Denver. But as my post of over a year ago states, the management/ownership was in flux, and that's one of the reasons I left. |
